Excessive amounts of omega-6 polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFA) and a very high omega-6/omega-3 ratio are challenging factors in Western diets, promoting the pathogenesis of many diseases, including cardiovascular disease and cancer. For this reason, omega 3 supplementation and a proper omega-6/omega-3 balance are protective factors.1
